Weapons & Bag Policy

Location: Manuel Lujan Jr. Exhibit Complex, Expo New Mexico

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees, guests, vendors, and staff, toonfusion: New Mexico enforces the following Weapons and Bag Policy in accordance with Expo New Mexico facility regulations and state law.

Bag Policy

 All bags are subject to inspection upon entry and re-entry to the venue. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for screening.

Permitted Bags:

  • Personal bags, purses, small backpacks, and camera bags

  • Artist or exhibitor supply bags during setup and teardown, subject to inspection

Prohibited Bags:

  • Oversized duffel bags, rolling luggage, or containers larger than 18” x 13” x 7”

  • Hard-sided cases, bins, or metal containers

  • Bags left unattended inside or outside the building

Clear bags are recommended but not required. Attendees bringing in art or merchandise for sale should use designated exhibitor entrances during approved setup hours.

Weapons & Prop Policy

 Expo New Mexico prohibits all real weapons on fairgrounds property. This includes all firearms, functional weapons, and realistic replicas. These rules apply to all attendees, exhibitors, guests, and staff regardless of permits.

Prohibited Items:

  • Real firearms, airsoft guns, BB guns, paintball markers, and any realistic replica of a firearm

  • Functional projectile weapons such as bows, crossbows, or throwing weapons

  • Sharp or metal blades, including swords, knives, or daggers

  • Explosives, fireworks, or pyrotechnics

  • Pepper spray, mace, stun guns, batons, or any self-defense weapon

Approved Props:

  • Cosplay props made from foam, cardboard, plastic, PVC, wood, or 3D-printed materials

  • Prop bows may be carried unstrung; arrows must have foam or rubber tips

  • Toy guns or sci-fi blasters must have a clearly visible orange tip or non-functional appearance

All props must be peace-bonded and inspected at the Weapons Check Station before entering the show floor.

Peace Bonding & Inspection

All costume props resembling weapons must be presented at the Weapons Check Station upon arrival. Approved items will receive a visible peace-bond tag.

Props may not be swung, fired, or aimed at any person. Security or convention staff may inspect props at any time and revoke approval if safety rules are violated.

Repeated violations may result in removal from the event without refund.

Enforcement

Toonfusion, Expo New Mexico, and contracted security staff reserve the right to:

  • Inspect all bags and props at any time

  • Deny entry or remove individuals for non-compliance

  • Confiscate any prohibited items at their discretion

Attendees must comply with all instructions from event and venue personnel. Failure to do so may result in removal without refund.
